Spring Quarter 2020

Faculty, Research, and Teaching Resources

Although Spring Quarter classes will be conducted via remote learning, the University of Chicago campus in Hyde Park will remain open. All academics, including faculty, other academic appointees, and postdoctoral researchers will be kept up to date regarding access to campus facilities for academic and research purposes, including laboratory, and library facilities.

Research Continuity

 Remote Teaching

    • As announced on March 12, the University will move all classroom instruction online for the entire Spring Quarter. We recognize this is a significant shift in our pedagogical approach and will require tremendous flexibility, effort, and creativity from all instructors. We are committed to doing everything we can to support you in our shared commitment to ensuring students receive a transformative education. If instructors have specific, remote teaching-related questions, please submit them online here.

Health and Wellness

  • The University is putting additional measures in place to protect the campus community’s health and well-being. Anyone who feels ill should not report to work. The following information and resources can support the well-being of yourself and others during this time.
  • Social distancing
    • The University encourages remote work when possible. For those who must be on campus, please limit close contact in the workplace, including: maintaining a distance of at least 6 feet from others; holding meetings by phone or online whenever possible; and establishing staggered work schedules to reduce the number of people working near each other at the same time.
  • Time off
    • Each calendar year, the University offers all faculty members, other academic appointees, and postdoctoral researchers 10 paid days to care for a sick relative or friend. These 10 days run concurrently with Family and Medical Leave. If more time off as a caregiver is needed, additional unpaid time off under the Family and Medical Leave Act is available. Contact leaveadministration@uchicago.edu to request FMLA.
  • Faculty and Staff Assistance Program
  • Adjusted campus recreational facility schedules
  • Additional health and wellness information for faculty
  • Additional benefits information related to COVID-19

Dining

  • UChicago has ceased dine-in service for all on-campus dining. Baker Dining Commons and the Maroon Market will offer take-out options.
